"Kara, we must hurry!"
I turn my head away from the holographic controls I had been manipulating. The download that I had been doing into a series of memory crystals pauses as I do so, “Father?”
He entered the room, “Kara there’s not much time left.” Taking position behind me he puts hands on my shoulders, “What are you doing?”
I start manipulating the light constructs once again completing the download to the data crystals. Despite my father’s warnings, I feel like all the information I’m downloading is important and that we can't afford to let a single piece of data be lost. My father is about to say something when another tremor strikes. His laboratory shakes as the planet shudders from the forces that we both know will eventually tear it apart. As the ground beneath my feet rocks, I shut my eyes and try to force back the tears I feel coming.
